We’re accelerating toward the Door.
The place has passed final inspection and we have our Certificate of Occupancy, so we’re moving in!
These photos are from before most of the assembly, because presently the space is a big mess. More on that in a moment. Here’s the week’s summary:
- We’ve been assembling so much furniture, y’all. The tables are done, the cashwrap and showcase are complete, and we’re starting in on shelves and chairs. Some of the stuff has nice, clear, Ikea-style assembly instructions. Some… well, it’s been a fun challenge. The results are great, though! And the chairs we’ve got so far are very comfortable.
- Styrofoam still sees a lot of use keeping flat-packed furniture secure in shipping. We have so many little styrofoam bits to vacuum up. And bits of cardboard and plastic wrap, of course, but it’s the styrofoam that’s particularly persistent.
- We have a phone number now! However, we’re not giving it out yet because we don’t actually have a phone to hook up to it. That’ll happen soon, and when it does we’ll post it on the info page along with our social media accounts, physical address, area map, and the like.
- We also have an Internet connection now, which is good because we had to download drivers for…
- …the new printer! It’s a game changer for anyone who likes huge maps, because it will print anything up to three feet by four feet in size. We firmly believe that nobody should have to tape together a zillion small pages just to get an epic landscape.
- It’s not directly related to the Door itself, but thanks to our efforts the bathroom shared by most of the businesses in the building now has proper grab bars by the toilet. That just seems important to mention. (It also seemed important enough to the building inspector to mention.)
- So much furniture. So much styrofoam.
- It’s official: Our soft launch date is October 4! It’s likely that not everything will be in place yet – we might be delayed on signs, there may be inventory yet to arrive, et cetera – but we’ll definitely be ready for folks to come in and play.
That seems like a short list, but everything accelerates from here, and the next week will almost be too much to cover. Until then, friends, we wish you safe travels and happy days!
