We’re nearing the next stage of preparations.

Good news – the builders are nearly done! The last few details are going in today, such as hanging the slatwall and attaching moulding to the bottoms of the walls. We’ll have photos of all that next week, but in the meantime, we have this to share:

On the left side, a purple door with a window in it that looks out to a blank warmly-lit space. On the right side, a purple wall with a white light switch and a prominent black acrylic sign with white text that reads, “This door to remain unlocked during business hours,” and “Maximum occupancy not to exceed 49 persons.”

Our designer is especially proud of having made this sign with the UV printer at the nearby makerspace. It’s nearly impossible to see in the photo, but beneath the lettering is proper raised Braille!

Here’s the other news of the week:

  • The final technological hurdle has been removed, and the mailing list should be working right for everybody now. (For the curious, we needed to straighten out reverse DNS.) If you’ve been on the list for a while but didn’t see last week’s mailed news post – or haven’t seen any at all yet – don’t worry. Anything you may have missed is archived on our site at our news page.
  • Inventory is starting to pour in. Dice, books, games that aren’t books… Seriously, one of these games comes on a scroll. How cool is that?
  • Once the contractors are done, we’ll get to assembling furniture:
    • The front counter and glass showcase. Together, these form the “cashwrap”, which is just a fancy name for the counter where the “point-of-sale” lives, which itself is just a fancy name for the computer we’ll use as our cash register and such.
    • Temporary tables. They’re lovely wooden tables that will stand in until our Wyrmwood Gaming tables are completed.
    • Thirty-one chairs! Large and comfortable, these will make for pleasant seating at those tables, along with a few for the waiting area.
  • We also have some lovely lockers on the way that folks can rent inexpensively to hold stuff across sessions. Never again worry about forgetting to bring a book, or your group forgetting their character sheets! The lockers won’t be immediately available due to delivery scheduling, but they should be here a couple weeks after we open.
  • The last few steps of the buildout feel agonizingly slow to us because we’re feeling the time pinch, but the truth is that 3BLC have been absolutely stellar to work with and they’ve been right on schedule. We highly recommend them!
  • We’re starting to build our event calendar with something for everyone from experienced roleplayers to those looking to get into the hobby. Be sure to share the player survey around (and perhaps the creator survey) so we can tailor our offerings.
  • We’ve joined the Seattle RPG Variety Society, as we’re very much aligned with their mission. We’re fine with folks playing Dungeons & Dragons in our space, but we’ll always encourage branching out and trying other roleplaying systems and settings.
  • While we’re at it, here’s a shout-out to our friends at Chance Encounter Games! If you like what we’re about, definitely check them out also.
  • It’s the Final Countdown! (Cue Europe on kazoo chorus.) We’re setting up our burndown charts to make sure everything that involving in opening is ready to go. It’s a bit intimidating so far, but we’ll make it all happen.

Soon, the space will be fully ours so we can go on to make it everyone’s. The Silver Door is well within sight!
