The Door is beginning to reveal itself.

We missed a weekly news post due to scheduling and technical issues, but we’re back on track. The place is really shaping up! Here are some photos of the progress:

What was formerly an office space has changed with a coat of paint. The ceilings are matte black while the walls and arch are a deep, rich purple. The empty door frame to the left is painted bright yellow; to the right is an open door painted magenta. The floor is covered in protective plastic and cardboard.
Another view from the opposite corner of the same space. To the left, a door frame is painted in cyan. To the right, behind a purple pillar, a yellor door leans against the wall. A variety of construction tools and materials fill the center of the main area, including a shoulder bag with many buttons and pins on it.
A view from within a room. The walls are painted a light grey. Visible through the yellow door frame is the open magenta door. This is included mainly because the composition of the shot was irresistible. Doors open to doors open to doors....

Now that the door frames and most of the doors are in, the ceiling is painted, and the walls are turning purple, it’s starting to feel much less like an office and much more like the Silver Door!

Of course, there’s more than just painting going on.

  • The slatwall has just arrived, along with the service counters. Some assembly required…
  • At this point, all of our online services – website, wiki, email, and the like – are properly hosted and not just running on someone’s computer at home. Linux admins will understand the work involved, and the unavoidable truth that everything takes at least two more major steps than the documentation suggests.
    • The mailing list might be temporarily affected by the server change; hopefully, our email hasn’t ended up in anyone’s junk folder. Thank you for your patience!
    • We’re close to having our mailing list software set up for proper subscription management. Until then, the best way to sign up is through our player survey, and if there are any adjustments to be made or a desire to unsubscribe, email us and we’ll happily set to it.
  • We now have a couple equipment certifications at North End Makerspace, which means our designer can start lasering acrylic into door signs and UV printing our logo on everything imaginable. This makes for a very enthusiastic designer.
  • More stuff is arriving by the day! We’re receiving shelves, chairs, bags, books, stationery, and all manner of minutae needed to make the business side of things happen as it should. Also, networking equipment. We have much Ethernet cable to run.
  • One wouldn’t think it would be exciting and fun to set up payroll and accounting software… and one would be right. But it’ll feel great when it’s done!
  • Pinehurst Station, the new light rail stop between Northgate and Shoreline South, will be opening September 30, just in time for our expected opening! To get from there to our place, it’s a brief walk – three-quarters of a mile, so around fifteen minutes. It’s an even briefer bus ride – the new route 77, which takes half that time. We’re very excited about it!

That about covers it for now. We’re steadily making our way toward our number-one goal – opening up the Door to everyone looking for a place to roleplay and people to do it with. Thank you for joining us on this journey!
