We’re so very close now.
With all the major components in place, we’re working out all the details we can, trying to get as much done as possible before our opening at 1PM on Saturday, October 17!
As we mentioned last week, there’s not a lot that’ll change visually before we open, but there’s still plenty going on.
- Starting up won’t happen all at once; there’s a lot we still have to do. Many inventory items remain to be ordered and received, many small improvements to the space need to happen, and our online services need a little more love. We’d like folks to see what we’re working on, so we’re planning to have a checklist displayed at the front counter.
- As one small example, we have fancy acrylic signs planned for each room, but the UV printer we’re relying on to make them will be out-of-order for another week or so. This means we’re relying on temporary laminated paper signs in the meantime. (Our designer is making a sad face.)
- As a larger example, we hoped to have online scheduling ready to go, but we’re not quite there yet. We should have this running within our first week. In the meantime, you can still schedule with us in person once we’re open, or by giving us a call at 206-327-9257.
- Much of the administrative work of the last week has been an avalanche of small details – stuff like scheduling and vacation policies – that have to be in place to run a business but that never seem to come up until somebody says “I can’t make it that day.”
- We’ve finally got our point-of-sale computer in place and ready to handle all the details of setting up new memberships, printing maps, settling transactions, and the like. It’s especially exciting for us because we had a little trouble getting the thing set up. (Sometimes, Hewlett-Packard’s site claims there are Linux drivers when there are none…)
- We went looking for interesting snacks and drinks, and we now have so many treats coming! Only a few of the more common ones will be available when we first open, but the rest will be in real soon. We’re especially looking forward to a variety of Liquid Death sodas— er, sparkling waters. We’ve also got quite a few local sodas on the way.
- We now have two large corkboards for posting community messages, flyers, and the like. Of course, we ask that such stuff meet our standards for material displayed in the space (roughly PG-13 rules), though they can certainly point toward mature fare if clearly labeled as such. We’re family-friendly, but we’re definitely not prudes.
- We’ve also received a donation of some sound baffling that will cut the echo within the rooms significantly! (Most of them are visible in the first photo above, wrapped in blue cellophane and awaiting installation.) The room acoustics weren’t the worst before, but they’ll be excellent once we’ve got these in place.
- We’re partnering with our nearby friends at Claw’s Workshop to offer some wonderful gaming accessories! Ask us about their dice towers. Some of them hold… secrets.
- Surveys! We have several short online surveys folks can fill out to help us focus our efforts. Tell us what you like to play, what games you run or stuff you create, and what community events you’d like to help make happen. We read through every one, and they really shape what we provide!
- As always, an archive of these news posts is available at our news page.
- And if you’re looking for more information about how to get to our location, our info page has you covered.
We’re opening in two days. Two days. It’s simultaneously hard to believe we’re actually doing this, and highly anticipated after a lot of hard work. We’re looking forward to seeing you come through the Silver Door!
